For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the LORD, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jer. 29:11
Hi! My name is Elaine Wolfenden. In 2004 My husband Mark and I decided to adopt an infant from China . We were expecting a little baby girl who would be between 7 and 13 mos old. When we received our referral information we found out our new daughter would be almost 2 years old. Although this wasn't what we had been expecting, upon seeing her little face and hearing all the facts about her, we knew she was our daughter. Against our social workers advice and grave concerns we accepted her referral. After seeing those haunting eyes in her referral picture I knew I would move mountains if I needed to to bring her home.
In 2005 our family traveled to China to pick up a frightened little 23 month old girl who had already stolen our hearts, little did we know just how much. Today she is a thriving, affectionate, laughing, happy, bright little girl who has brought so much joy and love to our family. I can't imagine her not being a part of our family. Had circumstances been a little different she might not of been. China's cut off age for infants is anyone over 24 months old. Because most people request infants, the older children are often left behind to live out the rest of their childhood in an orphanage. I often wonder had my daughter been a little older, if the timing had been a little different would she have been the one to be left behind? This thought takes my breath away. I know that
God's hand and grace placed our daughter into our life, I am so grateful for that. But thousands of others are left behind in China to spend their childhood in these institutions.
I am grateful for the care that my daughter received, but an orphanage cannot take the place of a family. Because of Grace and Hope children at Rongxian orphanage can experience their own family. Grace and Hope train and prepare chinese families to raise these little ones in an atmosphere of love where they can thrive and grow. The benefits these children receive from living in foster families cannot be measured. Please consider sponsoring one of these children today and impacting a child's life forever.
